Andrew Zimmern has spent decades proving that food can be a powerful force for cultural understanding and social change. An Emmy-winning and James Beard Award-winning television host, chef and food advocate, he brings boundless curiosity to his exploration of global cuisine on his acclaimed shows, including the Bizarre Foods franchise, The Zimmern List, What's Eating America, Family Dinner, and Wild Game Kitchen. His work extends into restaurants, publishing, and philanthropy, all driven by his conviction that shared culinary experiences can bridge divides and create lasting change.
Television, Publishing and Culinary Ventures
Andrew’s breakthrough series Bizarre Foods pioneered a new approach to culinary television— one that values cultural context, human connection, and storytelling—and established him as a trusted voice on global cuisine. Andrew's contributions to culinary media have earned him four James Beard Awards and multiple Emmy nominations.
In 2014, Andrew founded Intuitive Content, recognized as one of Realscreen's top 100 production companies worldwide. Intuitive Content has created acclaimed series including The Zimmern List (Emmy Award winner, 2020), What's Eating America (MSNBC), which explores political issues through food, and Family Dinner (Magnolia Network), a three-time Emmy nominee. Their most recent work includes Hope in the Water (James Beard and Emmy nominee, 2025), which explores groundbreaking blue food technologies.
Andrew has authored five books bringing his global food experiences to readers, from The Bizarre Truth to the Gold IPPY Award-winning fiction AZ and the Lost City of Ophir. His latest work, The Blue Food Cookbook (October 2025), serves as a complimentary publication to Hope in the Water.
Through Passport Hospitality, launched in 2015, Andrew develops culinary concepts and provides consulting for restaurant and retail projects, including Atlanta's Chattahoochee Food Works and food service development for the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream. Andrew collaborated with chef Gavin Kaysen to create KZ Provisioning, a performance-driven culinary company serving as the trusted partner for professional sports teams including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lynx, and Wild.
Global Impact
Andrew sits on the boards of Services for the UnderServed, Giving Kitchen, EXPLR Media and The Great Northern, while serving on advisory boards for Procure Impact and the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. As a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the UN World Food Programme and The Nature Conservancy, he leverages his platform to fight hunger and promote sustainability. He is a founding member of the Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture and the Independent Restaurant Coalition, continuing to advocate for responsible food systems.
In his rare downtime, Andrew relaxes in Minneapolis, spending time with his family and his dogs Luca and Clemmie.
